About Us: Overview

The Center for Stable Change:
Where the Shock of Change finds the Rock of Hope

The Center for Stable Change was established on these premises:

  • The only constant in our world is change.
  • A universal, normal human reaction to change is resistance to change.
  • Resistance sabotages change efforts by preventing those involved from "doing their part" to make the change a success.

We help transform resistance to change into commitment and support.

We help individuals and organizations proactively and successfully deal with non-stop change by assisting them to dissolve resistance to change. Only when resistance is removed can people make clear-headed decisions about how to solve the logical problems of planning, implementing, and institutionalizing a change.

The Center for Stable Change was founded by Jerald Young, Ph.D.

Jerald W. Young, Founder

Dr. Young is President of the Center for Stable Change, a consulting firm based in New York City specializing in transforming resistance to change into commitment and support.

He has consulted for public and private organizations in both high tech and service industries for over two decades.

Young is the author of Me? Change? Not Now! Not Ever! How to Dissolve Hard-Core Resistance to Change in the Workplace. This book clarifies the meaning of resistance to change, and explains how change leaders and managers can dissolve the resistance that would normally doom their change projects.

He received a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Yale University and was a professor of Management and Organizational Behavior in the School of Business at the University of Florida for 21 years before resigning to open his consulting firm.

He has made numerous presentations at national and international professional meetings including, the American Society for Training and Development, the International Communication Association, the Academy of Management, the American Institute for Decision Sciences, and E-Learning Conference and Expo.

Dr. Young has published extensively in such journals as the Journal of Applied Psychology, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of Behavioral Medicine, and Decision Sciences among others.
